威世波從「光」出發 為台灣點亮AI算力新時代

  • 從矽光元件到高速雷射模組,威世波董事長陳曉昇走過全球光通訊產業的起伏浪潮,帶領團隊從零建立光電製造體系,歷經價格戰、技術斷層與市場洗牌,仍堅持以台灣為核心,串聯半導體供應鏈,為AI與高速運算時代奠定光的基礎。陳曉昇語氣篤定地說:「世界最終會從電轉向光,光才是未來的語言。」秉持這份信念,讓威世波走向自主品牌新局。

2025年金根獎得主之一的威世波,自1996年美國加州矽谷成立以來,長期深耕光通訊領域,產品橫跨光收發模組、AOC及DAC。當AI、雲端與高速運算推升算力需求,光通訊老將陳曉昇選擇從「雷射光源晶片」切入市場,布局400G與800G高速光模組、CPO外置光源與其他雷射應用,搶先卡位AI伺服器與數據中心的傳輸新藍海。

「數據中心只能算是AI的基礎建設,AI的第二階段比拚的是算力。」陳曉昇指出,美中兩強在AI時代下走向不同節奏,美國仍在養算力,中國則直接衝向應用端,但真正的關鍵在光通訊基礎是否穩固。

對照威世波的成長軌跡,也喚起台灣光通訊產業的集體記憶。早年公司在美國矽谷布局矽光技術,曾與日本知名代工廠合作開發光產品,一路見證2000年產業泡沫化歷程,如今隨著國際巨頭崛起,陳曉昇忍不住自嘲:「當年的應用市場還不存在,我們靠的是對科技的想像力。」

◎以光為核心 重構AI時代傳輸能量

對照今日情況早已不可同日而語,AI應用如雨後春筍,早年資訊消費者,紛紛一躍成為資訊生產者等網路科技巨擘,隨著CPO(共同封裝光學)整合應用技術日漸成熟,已然為矽光子產業帶來一道清晰曙光。陳曉昇解釋,所謂矽光子是利用矽晶片製作光路以傳輸光訊號的技術,CPO技術可將矽光子晶片(光學元件)與CPU、GPU電子晶片封裝於同一載板上,大幅縮短光與電的距離,降低功耗與延遲。

比起中國高速光模組公司走大規模量產策略,威世波選擇避開和中國公司在代工端的正面對撞,轉而強化研發深度、拓展自有品牌,從T2、T3層級的銀行、資安、自駕車、醫療等應用市場切入,建立多元且具韌性的產品組合。陳曉昇表示:「我們一方面深耕雷射光源、光收發模組與光學交換器,另一方面結合AI、無人載具與醫療應用,分散市場風險、厚植技術深度。」

隨著全球供應鏈重組,威世波近年投資雷射工廠與研發中心,今年營收預估較去年大幅成長,「我們從接觸客戶到放量的過程中逐步累積產品的擴張性與技術信任。」他透露,明年公司計畫登錄興櫃,正式邁入資本市場新階段。

對陳曉昇而言,「光」不僅是技術核心,也是威世波重返國際科技舞台的起點,「AI、5G、無人載具、醫療影像,未來世界的運作都繫於光,台灣若能在這個關鍵節點上掌握光源技術,就能為全球算力時代照亮新的道路。」

WaveSplitter Technologies Announces New 70 mW and 100mW High-power CW Laser Diode for Silicon Photonics Applications

FREMONT, CA- February 23, 2023 – WaveSplitter Technologies, Inc. today announced our new 70 and 100 mW CW laser diodes designed for use in Silicon Photonics and related applications. These new lasers targeted at High density, high bandwidth networking applications found in High Performance Computing (HPC), warehouse mega data centers, and video distribution centers.

“With the advent of higher levels of integration in silicon photonics, one laser can be used to power up to 2 or 4 data channels. The modulators for each data channel can be implanted in silicon,” said Dr. Sheau Chen, CEO.  “But there is still a need for the high power CW laser diode to be implemented in Indium Phosphide process technology which is not compatible with the CMOS process.  In general, 70mW of power will provide by 2*2 400G(two channels/LD times two CW Lasers) , but 100mW can be used for 1*4 400G (four channels/LD times one CW Laser).”

Wavesplitter’s new family of high power laser diode products brings lower cost and higher levels of integration to high density silicon photonics and co-packaged optics applications.  The laser diodes are initially in 1310nm wavelength and can be available in other wavelengths depending on customer needs.  The laser diodes are available in bar and die on carriers(COC/COB) as well as TO and TOSA packages.  The lasers are manufactured in Taiwan and are TAA-compliant.

The new high-power 70mW CW lasers are available in Q4 2022.  The 100mW CW lasers will be with Beta sample in April 2023 and mass production in July 2023.
