Differences between 10G single rate and 1/10G dual rate

Various issues related to compatibility frequently occurs on 10G SFP+ transceivers. One of the reasons is that they have different variation in implementation of dual rates products.

They are expected to be that Transceiver type would have both “10G Ethernet:10GBase-SR” and “Ethernet: 1000BASE-SX”, and that Option would have “RATE_SELECT implemented”. However, those vendors who experienced some failures when the products were equipped with some switches might decide to have such curious configuration showing above as an example to avoid the problems.
