WaveSplitter Technologies Offers New 100G Active Optical Cable for Data Center Interconnect

FREMONT ,CA- September 30, 2015 – WaveSplitter Technologies, Inc., a worldwide supplier of  optical components and modules for advanced optical networks, today announced new 100Gbps Active Optical Cables (AOC), targeted at High density, high performance applications found in High Performance Computing (HPC), warehouse mega data centers, and video distribution centers.


“Wavesplitter is pleased to provide these new 100Gbps Active Optical Cables in order to address this high performance, fast growing area of the optical network market,” said Dr. Sheau Chen, CEO. “With the advent of the new switching chips that accommodate 25 Gbps lanes, 100Gbps suddenly becomes an economic reality for warehouse data centers High Performance Computing applications,” said Dr. Chen.  “These AOC’s utilize our Photonic System Integration in our proven Silicon Optical Bench, eliminating the need for standard TO-style can-based TOSA and ROSA..  This technology was originally developed for the needs of the 40Gbps transceiver applications and now updated to 100bps speeds. This unique silicon photonics minimizes manual labor needed for assembly and testing and maximizes component yield, making them ideal for lower cost, high-volume applications.”


Wavesplitter’s 100G AOC products bring lowest cost, highest performance interconnect between racks in a row and row to row interconnect in the data center or video distribution locations. They are meant to be used in datacom networking equipment such as 100GbEthernet switches and routers, load balancers, and high speed data and video servers, Infiniband EDR, FDR, QDR switches.


The Active Optical Cables will be available in std lengths 10, 20, 30, 50, 70, and 100m and both LSZH or OFNR cable jacket types.   Custom lengths can be provided on request.  Each end is a QSFP28 compliant form factor and works in any QSFP28 compliant line card.  Engineering units are available in October for customers to qualify in their networks, with production units available in Q1 2016.
